Budding Researchers Make Their Mark: School’s InnoFair Participants Achieve Publication Success
Congratulations are in order for four of our talented students who have achieved remarkable success in the realm of scientific research! Tammi Ip, Hannah Lee, Quenie Lam, and Clement Kwan participated in the ESF InnoFair February 2023, showcasing their innovative projects. But their journey did not end there – with the guidance of Lorraine Harte, a dedicated Chemistry teacher at Island School, these students continued to refine and expand their research.
After months of hard work, meticulous proofing, and countless edits, the students’ research has now been published in the prestigious Journal of Emerging Investigators (JEI). This impressive accomplishment is a testament to the students’ passion, perseverance, and the invaluable mentorship provided by Ms. Harte.
The published article, which can be accessed through Link, delves into the students’ investigation of the effects of plasticizers on the mechanical properties and chemical composition of a gelatin biopolymer. The in-depth research they conducted, combined with the guidance of Professor Ka Man Cheung from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, has resulted in a work of exceptional quality.
“I am incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment these students have displayed,” said Ms. Harte. “Their willingness to go the extra mile, coupled with the support of our school and the expertise of our partners, has enabled them to achieve this remarkable feat.”
The success of these students serves as an inspiration to all aspiring young scientists within our community. It demonstrates the immense potential that can be unlocked when students are given the opportunity to explore their scientific interests and receive the necessary support to pursue their passions.
