Interior design concept workshop for the new campus

At the interior design workshop organised by the school’s communications team on 20 May 2022, Island School students, parents and staff were asked to consider how they want to use the biggest, most significant areas of their new Borrett Road campus.

The Island School community will start the new academic year at the new campus, completing a four and half year of the redevelopment project. The workshop was led by two interior designers from Ryder, the firm of architects appointed to consider how to use the school’s biggest blank walls and focal points. The project’s goals and their designs will help to achieve the following:

• Inspire learning
• Celebrate students’ work
• Acknowledge the school’s legacy and history

One of the students who attended the workshop Aoi said, “We began the workshop by thinking about what it means to be an Islander. I believe this is really integral to designing a fitting Island School campus. We also talked about finding solutions to the project’s goals. Most groups suggested that: digital and interactive screens, media walls and lightboxes could be used informatively and also to display student work. My group highlighted the importance of modifiable spaces.”

“The designers also showed us their concept pallet, and it was great to be able to give feedback and comment on it. I’m excited to see how the designs develop and I can’t wait to go to the new campus.”
