Environmental Projects
With a focus on reducing our footprint Island School’s groups and classes, including its long running green group ‘Wanbo’ undertakes a range of environmental initiatives. One such project is Plastic Retakit’ a plastic recycling initiative which aims to repurpose plastic waste into new and sustainable items. Head of Design and Technology Mr. Tim Parker is working with a student group to build plastic recycling machines. The team has built a shredding machine, a injection moulding machine and an extrusion line. The team can then make products, i.e. cups, chairs, phone cases.
The inspiration for the project came from the ‘Precious Plastic movement. They plan to bring this project to the community by making benches and chairs available in public spaces that encourage people to think about how they recycle.
