Message From The Principal, 17 August 2018
Dear Parents
Welcome back to what promises to be a very exciting year at Island School. Induction Week has been a hive of activity. We’ve delivered programmes that have emphasised building relationships – relationships that will enable students to thrive, setting us up for another successful chapter in the life of our great school.
Our entire faculty and student body have been energised and motivated by the new students who have joined our school and by the excellent results achieved by the Class of 2018. The results included:
- 5 students achieving the perfect score of 45 IB points
- 6 Students on 44 points
- 99.1% Pass Rate
- 5% of students achieving 40 points or more
- 91% over 30 Points
- 65% of BTEC grades being at the highest possible level of distinction star.
Only Island School’s community members will truly appreciate the quality of this performance. At numerous stages last year I communicated how well our students handled the decant process and their results are testament to this.
These excellent results place Island School in the highest echelon of international schools and I wish to congratulate the students and my colleagues on these outstanding results. To parents who supported our school through the move to Sha Tin an enormous thank you.
We remain committed to excellence in 2018/19 and our school has made extensive plans to further improve the quality of schooling provided. This year we will launch our new strategic plan and in doing so will introduce the following exciting initiatives:-
- the MYP programme into the junior phase
- the IBCP into senior phase
- the Positive School’s Programme to target psychological health
- the Island School Alliance to engage with business.
- A programme to strengthen teaching quality
Our results, strategic initiatives and the programmes that students will engage with will be explained at our scheduled start of year parent meetings which for the first time will be held for every year level. The dates of these meetings are available here, more detailed information will be circulated closer to the event.
My colleagues and I look forward to working with you this year to ensure every Island School student achieves their potential.
