ESF Chairman’s Award 2018
The students that achieved outstanding exam results or excellence in a special category were recognised at the ESF Chairman’s Awards on the 8 Aug 2018.
This year 38 Island School students were recognized, including the students who achieve 42 points or more in their IB exams and the Applied Learning Pathway students who gained multiple Star Distinctions. Five students won special category awards for demonstrating excellence in the selected field,
- Dylan Ngan, Leadership
- Erika Makino, Commitment and Contribution to Service
- Kiara Jim, Sport
- Aqua Tai, Creativity
- Darius Tam, Embodying the Spirit and Values of the School
The parents who attended the awards ceremony explained what they felt. Mr Ngan said, “I was really quite happy to see Dylan win his award. Since Years 7 and 8 I have seen Dylan develop skills, he is happy to get involved and try new things. He is now very independent and self- reliant and his leadership skills have grown.”
In the press coverage following the ESF Chairman’s Awards the South China Morning Post, Young Post featured Aqua Tai who won the Chairman’s Award for Creativity. In the article she talks about some of the creative projects she has been involved with including the art installation for Island School’s “Five-0” one of the 50th anniversary celebrations. She is quoted as saying, “We constructed this huge chandelier at the centre of our playground. People could walk underneath it and take photos all around … my contribution was putting it up and making it into reality.”
