Dear Parents

The highlight for this week has undoubtedly been the IB Art and BTEC exhibition by our senior students. This week I would like to spotlight the Arts components of this endeavour and will comment on the other components in the next newsletter.

Education in the Arts has never been more important for young people. Our students learn in the digital age where the primary sources of content information are no longer teacher lectures or textbooks. Learning is not limited to what they know, but is dependent upon how to find information and how to use that information quickly, creatively, and cooperatively.

The edge that high performing students have is that they learn how to apply this information in new and insightful ways. The Arts has a pivotal role to play in this regard because they free the mind from rigid certainty by challenging students to seek, find, and develop multiple solutions to the myriad of problems facing our society today.

The comprehensive Island School Arts programme offers our students the amazing opportunities for in-depth learning about the things that matter the most: integrity, thinking skills, a sense of wonder, truth, flexibility, fairness, dignity, contribution, justice, creativity and cooperation. Part of what makes the IB Art and BTEC exhibition so special is that it spotlights the distance traveled by our dedicated artists and the special bond they have formed with our talented and dedicated teachers.

The tremendous quality of the work on display thrilled all who witnessed it and will serve as an inspiration for years to come.
