Sports Awards 2017
At the inaugural Sports Awards, 19 May, 100 students were recognized for their improvements in and the value they bring to their chosen sport.
Director of Sports David Martin opened the event and launched the Island School Typhoons, the new name of all of Island School’s sports teams. He talked about what it means to be a Typhoon, with success, pride, inspiration, respect, integrity and teamwork being the values and goals that teams should strive for.
Students from all years and different sports collected a trophy for either “most valuable” or “most improved player”. Click here to see a full list of the winners.
Special guest, former Hong Kong rugby player Edward Rolston, talked about the importance of doing what makes you happy and how he has carried the skills and values he learnt playing sport into everyday life.
He then presented two special awards to the Sports Boy and Girl of the Year, awarded to Nicholas Basford and Ada Ytterdal.

The charity partner, for the evening, was the Ben Kende foundation named after a former Island School student, the foundation endeavors to improve the lives of those with spinal injuries.
The GCSE Food Technology class prepared a banquet of food including vegetable samosas, lamb koftas, whoppie pies and scones with jam and cream.
