Island Five-0, were you there?
The Island School community came together at Island Five-0, an Arts festival celebrating 50 years of Island School, on Saturday the 3 Dec 2016. The fair coordinators and senior staff Julian Reed and Kate Sommerville would like to thank everyone who supported this event. There were students and special guest acts performing, music, dance, drama and spoken word pieces. Mr Reed said: “There was a good mix of performers at the fair. Bands and DJs that got everyone dancing – but there was also some tender moments. I saw a couple of parents with tears in their eyes watching their children perform.” The ISPTA served hundreds of meals to hungry fair visitors at the International Food market in the Hall while families played retro games in the Block 4 playground. It is estimated that the PTA’s stalls made $100,000 while other parts of the fair made $70,000 (both figures are before expenses). Over 1,750 people attended the event making it one of the largest in Island School’s history.
Principal Chris Binge said: “It was a fabulous event! When generations of Islanders meet-up they will talk about the Five-0, asking were you there?”
There will be more 50th anniversary celebrations with events around the Hong Kong Sevens and a gala weekend in June 2017. Click here for more information.
