Counsellor – Higher Education
To maintain contacts with HE institutions worldwide and keep up to date information on the courses and admission criteria at these institutions.
• Together with the Head of Careers & HE Guidance and other HE team members, assist in conducting group sessions and workshops in school to students, parents and staff and take responsibility for presentations on agreed specific destinations
• Organise meetings and presentations with HE representatives, including HE Fairs
• Take part in HE events within school which may take place after school hours
• Assist in organising visits to HE events outside school
• Conduct guidance interviews and testing with students, advising students on appropriate choices
• Co-ordinate data collection of school leaver destinations
• Maintain contact and communication with HE institutions worldwide
• Facilitate the preparation of school documents for HE applications to agreed destinations
• Publicise and promote the resources, advice and guidance available to students in the school
• Maintain Careers & HE Guidance resources
• Attend and participate in professional development
• Forge good relations with teaching and support staff
• Attend school meetings as required
• Represent the Careers & HE Guidance Department in coordination with the Head of Department, and take part in ESF wide discussion and development of the HE services
• Support students who have difficulties with HE applications when exam results have been published during the summer holiday period.
• Working with parents, alumni, and the wider community, create mentoring opportunities, internships and career experiences

Knowledge
• ICT applications; knowledge of HE systems, institutions and application procedures in countries where Island School students tend to apply
