Environmental Ambassadors Specialise in Species

Island School’s environmental ambassadors met with their counterparts from Sha Tin College on, 27 April 2018 to start the planning process of working more collaboratively on sustainability action projects across the ESF.

One aspect that students investigated was ways in which we can increase the biodiversity in schools’ gardens. The group took part in the City Nature Challenge, an international competition that saw nearly 70 cities all over the world competing to see who could find the most species. The students used an App called iNaturalist, which asks users to take photos of something in nature, a bird, tree or insect. The photo is uploaded to the App, and a team of scientists and amateur enthusiasts identify it.

Results are still coming in, however, at this time Hong Kong sits third in regards to the number of species identified.’
