Hugs, Scottish country dancing and marmalade sandwiches – Island School says goodbye to much loved staff

Carol Boag, 37 years at Island School

Head of Chemistry, Carol Boag left Island School this week after 37 years. In a farewell from students they said, “You are everything we ever wanted in a teacher – we will never forget you.”

Staff said, “She cares so much about the students. She is a kind, lovely and generous person.” Carol thanked all those that have taught her children and Head of Science Jonny Horner, before everyone danced a Scottish jig!

Another long-term Islander leaving this year is, Vice Principal Trudy Lant. Students described her as their “school mum” who always encouraged them to achieve their best.

Principal Chris Binge was praised for “allowing staff and students to flourish – while being totally driven by his values”. Students explained that, “through his leadership they have become leaders themselves.” Mr. Binge was sent on his way to Peru dressed as Paddington Bear with marmalade sandwiches!

Mr. Binge thanked many from the bottom of his heart including Vice Principal Jenny Hodson who’s advice he always trusts, his assistant Betty Tsu and his wife Helen!
