Over the 5 years (and counting!) I've attended Island School, the community has grown to become a second home to me, a feeling that is bolstered not just by the excellent teaching faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, but also a peer community that enables all Islanders to grow and evolve in their respective fields.

Island School is my second family and home. Its tight-knit community sincerely helped shape my conceptual understanding of the world around me on a global, national, and local scale—without such a unique collection of experiences, I certainly would not be the person I am today. The encouragement from teachers and peers for students to pursue excellence in their areas of work is unparalleled and pushes students in their growth as well as development, whether they realise it or not.

Island School has nurtured and transformed me both as an individual as well as academically. The learning environment and community, plentiful of opportunities, has allowed me to develop a passion for STEM, community service and leadership to further inspire others.

Island School has made my high school experience incredibly memorable. I was given the opportunity to engage in a range of extracurricular activities that allowed me to explore my interests and step out of my comfort zone, which helped enhance my communication skills and overall confidence. Most importantly, the sense of community allowed me to form valuable friendships and meaningful connections.

Every time I visit Island School I’m impressed by the positive vibe I feel on campus. There is always a sense of excitement, activity and joy. And someone will always say ‘hello’ - be it a student, a teacher or staff. This welcoming feeling extends across the school, providing a nurturing environment for my kids to grow up in with a healthy balance between academic achievement and focus on important social, sporting and life skills.

Choosing Island School was the right decision for our son Daanyal. Over his 7 years there, he thrived in their inquisitive, progressive environment. The school fostered Daanyal's independent, mature thinking, with steadfast teacher support every step of the way. We appreciated how the school involved us parents and made us feel part of Daanyal's balanced growth. Island School empowered him to explore opportunities beyond campus and truly embraced his unique identity. We're thankful for the nurturing, student-centred experience that guided Daanyal's development.

My teachers and friends were incredible support systems that I couldn't have completed this journey without. It was the heartfelt conversations, reassuring smiles, warm laughs, and the immense unity I felt with them that propelled me through both my tribulations and triumphs. Thank you, Island School—I couldn't be more grateful.

Being an Islander has been an incredible privilege and a source of immense pride for me. I could not have achieved what I did without the unwavering support and encouragement of my teachers and friends, who always challenged me to transcend my limits and pursue my aspirations. I’m deeply grateful for the invaluable guidance and companionship they have given me throughout my journey.

While school memories may mean the tangible architecture of the pre-redevelopment campus for many Islanders each from a different House (go Da Vinci!) the intangible spirit and bonds are common to all Islanders.

On 17 January 2025, Islanders gathered for the annual Whole School Walk in support of the Island School Trust, which assists children in less privileged situations in Hong Kong and abroad.

Students dressed in various themes, including Future Selves, Iconic Duos/Groups, Mythology, Historical Figures, Cartoon Characters, and Teacher-Student Swap. They chose from three trails: Bowen Road, the Harbourfront, or The Peak Loop.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and donated. Donations will be collected again this Friday, 24 January.

The last day of term before winter break was a blast! We kicked things off with a lively assembly-style party that had everyone buzzing. The IS Chicago Ensemble wowed us with a sneak peek of the upcoming school production, and we were treated to an amazing performance by STARS winner Celine Tam.

Five Guys even joined in on the fun with their rendition of "Last Christmas." Keeping with tradition, our teachers took the stage to sing "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "We Three Kings," and soon enough, the whole school was jumping, hugging, and singing along to Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody."

We also took a moment to say goodbye to Principal Loggie and Mr. Travers, wishing them all the best in their next adventures. What a perfect way to wrap up the term!

Last Friday, Year 10 GCSE Art students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a one-day workshop with visiting sculpture artist Gail Deayton. They explored her creative process and developed ideas inspired by natural forms, which will be incorporated into their upcoming unit and GCSE Fine Arts coursework. The students actively engaged in the development process by sketching thumbnail ideas, creating maquettes, and constructing their final sculptural piece.

Wilberforce House had an incredible Charity Week supporting the Chicken Soup Foundation! We kicked things off with a fun duck delivery, followed by a vibrant carnival that brought everyone together. The epic teacher vs. student karaoke battle featured amazing performances from Ms. Weston, Ms. Hjelmeland, Ms. Hall, and our principal, Mr. Loggie, with Mr. Wells and Mr. Davis taking home the win!
Congratulations to 10W for winning the sponsored dance gala! Shoutout to Bethany and Anna for their karaoke victory!
Elaine, a single mother and recipient of the charity funds, shared her heartfelt story at our Wilberforce gala about how the foundation supports single parents in crisis after the loss of a spouse to sudden illness. Your contributions truly make a difference!
