UNESCO x IS Talk on Sustainable Development
WANBO hosted an online discussion with Americana Chen – UNESCO Hong Kong’s Student Affairs Representative on 7 June, 2022.
The talk consisted of Americana introducing the organisation and different programmes that Year 10 to Year 13 students can take part in. Ms Chen highlighted her UNESCO experiences, which included the ability to publish a book, collaborate on a bilingual textbook, participate in MUNESCO (International Model of UNESCO), and other exciting opportunities she was involved in. Through her experiences, she shared her learning path of how she realised sustainable development’s application to a wide range of issues. The discussion was followed by a brief Q&A session, where participants were able to ask her a variety of questions.
“The talk was really informative, one piece of information that I enjoyed listening to was that everyone had a role to play in sustainability. Our jobs may seem different, but in reality, the whole thing is very interconnected,” commented Megan Chan and Ava Yeung 9D.
Celine Rusli from 10R also said: “ I found the UNESCO talk useful as Americana spoke on many topics regarding what UNESCO HKA does and what she managed to accomplish within 4 years. I also gained more knowledge on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which I never knew before.”
It was an honour being able to invite Americana for this insightful talk with Island School students! If you are interested in learning more about UNESCO, feel free to check out the full video of the event here, or on their official website.
