Top Talkers at ESF Debate Competition

At the inaugural ESF inter-school debate, hosted by Renaissance College on Saturday 3 June 2017, Island School students were ranked in the top ten individual speakers!

In two teams, students from Years 7-10 tackled challenging topics including parental access to social media, property ownership in Hong Kong and whether or not we should launch a one-way mission to Mars!

This was the Novice Team’s first ever experience in competitive debating, whilst the Junior team were able to apply their learning from the debate Elements course to a formal competition for the first time.

English Teacher Mr Nason said, “Both teams gained valuable experience and performed brilliantly on the day.  Particular credit goes to Rohan, Charles & Alicia who ranked as the 4th, 6th and 8th best individual speakers, respectively, in the competition!”
