Harbour Times and The Economist Report on Secession Debate at Island School

The Harbour Times a newspaper that reports on Policy, Politics and Business in Hong Kong has covered the secession debate held at Island School on the 20 June 2016.

Their report claims that, “two Hong Kong political groups from opposing camps made history in the Island School Hall, participating in the territory’s first political debate on self-determination and secession from China.”

The report goes on to quote the key points from each of the speakers: Kenny Wong – Member of Youngspiration, Regina Ip – Member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, Cheng Chung-tai – Leading member of Civic Passion and a teaching fellow at Polytechnic University and Eunice Yung – barrister-at-law and member of the New People’s Party. Andrew Work Editor-in-chief of the Harbour Times moderated the debate.

The debate was witness by students from Years 9 -12 who had an opportunity to ask questions following their opening statements.
