Landscaping The Sha Tin Campuses

Elements class Urban Survival and the Gardening Club have been landscaping the raised beds at the entrances to the Sha Tin campuses. Students from the Urban Survival Elements class were busy last term preparing the plants to move from Borrett Road’s garden to Island School Tai Wai and Sha Tin Wai.

The students spent a few weeks before the Christmas break planning and planting a new front garden with an automated irrigation system.

Horticulturalist, Paul Melson helped the students plan the planting. He said, “This will make for a welcoming, attractive entrance with many beautiful flowering plants for our new school, as well as having a positive impact on the local environment by encouraging insects and birds.”

“The students worked very hard – they did a fantastic job landscaping, digging and planting.”

Last term the Urban Survival class hosted a herb sale at lunchtime and had a stall at the Christmas Fair, in a bid to bring more attention to being green within the school community. And the Gardening Club is helping to landscape the front of the  Sha Tin Wai campus.

Students interested in helping to ‘green’ the two campuses are welcome to meet on Wednesday lunchtimes at 11:50, please see Mr Davis or Mr Sims for further details. Meetings hosted at both campuses. There are many exciting opportunities such as helping with planting, tending and growing plants.
