Announcement Following the Sha Tin District Council Meeting 4 July 2017

At the Shatin District Council (Education & Welfare Committee) meeting, 4 July, ESF secured final support for Island School to decant to two campuses in Shatin Wai and Tai Wai while the buildings on Borrett Road are redeveloped.

Refurbishment work at the sites will start in July 2017. The plans are well developed and I am very much looking forward to sharing them with you at a special meeting held in the school Hall at 6pm on 22 August. An agenda and reminder of the meeting will be circulated closer to the time.

This has been four years in the planning and a number of people have work very hard to get to this stage – a great achievement and a time to celebrate!

Stephen Loggie, Island School Principal

FAQ following confirmation of the decant site allocation:

1)  What now, when will refurbishment work start?
ESF will collect the keys for both sites by mid-July 2017. A contractor has been selected and are waiting for the word from ESF to start work.

2)   When will students and staff move to the new sites?
All building work will finish in early December 2017. This will enable the move to take place over the Christmas break. We will have time around the Christmas period for staff to prepare the sites for teaching, but the dates have not yet been confirmed.

3)  What is the timeline of actions between now and the move?
On 22 Aug at 6pm all parents are invited to a Transition information evening chaired by Stephen Loggie. That evening we will give a timeline for the following few months, show the new site facilities, works progress, changes to school routines, and transport options.

4)  What can we expect from the new schools?
We are excited about the new facilities that are being provided and believe the move will greatly enhance the Island School student experience. New facilities such as creative hubs and multi purpose spaces feature in both sites.

5) How is transport being addressed?
Transport plans will be finalised in early August and explained at the meeting on 22 Aug 2017. Following the meeting this information will be posted online.
